Two people were arrested this morning after failing to evade the Air Support Unit (ASU) in a stolen vehicle.
At around 4:40 a.m. today, May 5, 2023, officers patrolling in the area of Rusholme Road and Avenue P North observed a vehicle believed to be stolen and displaying an incorrect license plate travelling in front of them. Upon activation of the police vehicle’s emergency equipment, the suspect vehicle accelerated away at an excessively high rate of speed. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed; however, the suspect vehicle continued to be driven erratically until coming to a stop in the 200 block of Camponi Place. As the driver and passenger fled on foot, officers in the air were able to guide those on the ground to their locations; both were quickly arrested.
As a result, a 37-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle being pursued by police, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and failure to comply with several court-imposed conditions. Additional warrants were also executed at this time, including one against the 20-year-old female passenger from Saskatoon.
