After 18 years, the Saskatoon Police Service is renewing its request for public assistance in the 2006 homicide of Hughie James Assiniboine.
In the afternoon hours of May 5, 2006, police and paramedics responded to the 1600 block of 22nd Street West for a report of an injured person. Upon arrival, then 23-year-old Hughie James Assiniboine was located deceased. An autopsy later confirmed him to be the victim of homicide.
The investigation into this historical homicide remains open. No suspects have been arrested but investigators believe members of the public may have information helpful in solving the case. Anyone with relevant information to offer is asked to contact police directly at 306-975-8300 or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The victim in the May 5, 2006 homicide has been identified as:
Hughie James Assiniboine, age 23 years. Mr. Assiniboine was a resident of Saskatoon.
An autopsy was performed today which confirmed Mr. Assiniboine died as a result of a stab wound.
No suspects have been arrested in regard to the homicide. Major Crime investigators are continuing the investigation.

Saskatoon Police are investigating Saskatoon’s 3rd homicide of the year.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., May 5, 2006, police and M.D. Ambulance responded to 1622 22nd Street West regarding an injured person. In an apartment there they found a 23-year-old male who was deceased.
Several persons are being interviewed to determine what transpired prior to this man’s death. At this time it appears the deceased and a second male had been involved in an altercation with several other persons outside of 1622 22nd Street West. During this altercation, the 23-year-old male received a stab wound. He made his way to a suite in the apartment block and died a few minutes later.
An autopsy will be conducted to confirm the cause of death. Time and date not known at this time.
Name of the deceased will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
No arrests have been made at this time. Major Crime members are continuing the investigation.
