Three police officers were assaulted after attempting to apprehend a man under the Mental Health Services Act.

At around 8:00 p.m. on June 29, 2023, members of the Police and Crisis Team (PACT) and Patrol attended to an address in the 800 block of 7th Avenue North to apprehend a man by judicial order for assessment under the Mental Health Services Act. While interacting with members of PACT, the man became agitated and armed himself with a knife. Officers immediately engaged the man in an attempt to disarm him; during the struggle over the knife, he spit in the face of a Constable. He was ultimately disarmed and apprehended without further incident before being transported to hospital by PACT for assessment.

As a result, the 32-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and assaulting a police officer with a weapon (x3).
