A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged after police responded to a report of a man armed with a firearm.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., September 10, 2023, police were dispatched to the area of 17th Street West and Avenue L South regarding a male attempting to enter a vehicle. The male was reported to be in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, officers observe the suspect on top of a sea-can storage container, jump off, and flee on foot. A canine unit had also responded and successfully took the suspect into custody.

During the foot pursuit, officers had witnessed the suspect discard an item, and upon further investigation located an imitation firearm.

The suspect was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries consistent with a dog bite before being transported to SPS Detention. He was also believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant.

The 36-year-old is charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon and breach of court-imposed conditions.
