Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers will gather in Regina on Sunday, September 24, 2023, for the annual Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers Memorial.
In 1998 the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday in September as Canadian Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. In announcing the commemorative day, the Solicitor General of Canada stated, "A formal, National Memorial Day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of Police and Peace Officers, who make the ultimate, tragic sacrifice to keep communities safe."
Since 2004, Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers have been recognizing this event with a parade and ceremony in Regina.
The Parade of Officers will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum located at College Avenue and Albert Street. The Parade will proceed south on Albert Street to the Legislative Building. The Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place on the front steps of the Legislative Building at 11:00 a.m.
All active and retired police and peace officers are welcome to participate in the parade. The general public is invited to gather along the parade route as well as in front of the Legislative Building for the reading of the Honour Roll and the Wreath-laying Ceremony.
