One man was taken to hospital from SPS Detention following an incident last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., October 22, 2023, Patrol officers arrested a man for public intoxication at 22nd Street West and Avenue U South. While entering into SPS Detention, the man was resistant to officer commands. He was medically assessed and cleared by the paramedic in Detention before being escorted to a cell. When officers closed the cell door, the man reached his hand into the path of the closing door resulting in serious, non-life threatening injuries to his fingers. He was then transported to hospital by ambulance.

A Use Of Force report was completed in accordance with policy.
