Medical Distress In Police Detention

The 29-year-old Saskatoon man who went into medical distress while in Detention on November 4, 2023 is now in stable condition and recovering.

The Saskatoon Police Service is continuing to investigate with oversight from SIRT.

Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section are investigating after a 29 year old Saskatoon man went into medical distress while in detention this morning.

At approximately 6:30 am, a detention paramedic observed the male, who was brought into detention an hour earlier, to be agitated and going into medical distress. The males condition continued to decline as paramedics assessed him, and the male was transported to hospital for further care and assessment. The male is currently in critical condition, and family of the male has been contacted and are aware of his condition.

As required by The Police Act, 1990, the Saskatoon Police Service notified the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) of the incident. Following the notification, SIRT’s Civilian Executive Director directed the Saskatoon Police Service to retain conduct of the investigation, and assigned a SIRT Investigator to review the investigation.
