One man has been arrested following a lengthy standoff with police.
On November 21, 2023, members of the Guns and Gangs Unit observed a man wanted on criminal code warrants and believed to be in possession of firearms enter a residence in the 1700 block of 22nd Street West. Following an approximately 11-hour standoff with police that involved the assistance of multiple purpose-trained police teams, he was taken into custody in the early morning hours of November 22, 2023 without further incident. A search of the residence led to the seizure of a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, a high-velocity imitation handgun, ammunition, and two cans of bear spray.
As a result, the 34-year-old man has been charged with several weapons-related offences in addition to mischief under $5,000 for wilfully damaging police property during the incident. His criminal code warrants, including failure to comply with court-imposed conditions, were also executed at this time.
Traffic restrictions that were in place for the duration of this incident have since been removed. Police thank members of the public for their accommodation of the closures.
Traffic Restrictions continue to be in place this evening on 22nd Street West. Along with the intersections mentioned previously, it should be noted that the intersection at Avenue P and 22nd Street West also has traffic restrictions.
This investigation is ongoing, motorists and pedestrian traffic should continue to avoid the area.

The Saskatoon Police Service is informing members of the public of a police presence in the 1700 block of 22nd Street West.
Traffic restrictions are in place on 22nd Street West between Avenue R and Avenue Q. Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible, or follow police instruction.
An update will be issued when more information is available.
