A 61 year old Saskatoon man was taken into police custody yesterday, following a report of a male in a residence, armed with a rifle.

At approximately 4:10 p.m. police received the report from two canvassers who encountered the armed male. Along with Patrol, members of the Tactical Support Unit attended the scene. Residents living nearby were asked to shelter-in-place for their safety. At approximately 5:20 p.m. officers on-scene were successful in negotiating with the man and he was taken into custody after exiting the residence. A search located several firearms at the home, along with ammunition.

The SPS is continuing to investigate the incident.
