A 23 year old Saskatoon man is facing charges following reports of a man armed with a machete over the weekend.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., May 19, 2024, Police received calls from members of the public in the area of Avenue K and 21st Street West. They reported that a man was approaching people for money while brandishing a machete. A responding officer spotted a man and a woman matching the description walking in the 200 block Avenue J South. Upon seeing the officer the male suspect fled on foot. Additional officers arrived in the area and witnessed the man entering a home in the 800 block of 20th Street West. When the male refused to follow police commands a canine team successfully brought him into custody. A search of the man's backpack resulted in officers locating both the machete and a crossbow stock.

The suspect was not injured during the incident. The woman was not charged.

The male is now facing charges of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
