Update: Police Presence/Traffic Restrictions - 10 Block O'Neil Crescent

June 4, 2024 10:46 AM

The Saskatoon Police Service has concluded its presence at an incident in the 10 block of O’Neil Crescent yesterday.

At around 8:40 a.m. on June 3, 2024, police were called to a residence on O’Neil Crescent for a report of a man threatening self-harm; it was reported that he may be in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the man; however, he refused to exit and began threatening the lives of police from inside the residence. Following several hours of negotiation, the man exited the residence and was apprehended under the Mental Health Services Act without further incident; he was also charged with uttering threats to cause death (x2).

Upon making entry to the residence to clear it of any additional persons, officers located what was believed to be a grenade. The Explosive Disposal Unit responded to the scene and later confirmed it to be an inoperable replica grenade. A search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence where officers located and seized an imitation firearm.

Traffic restrictions that had been put in place for the duration of this incident have since been removed; police thank members of the public for their accommodation of the closures.
