One man has been arrested after assaulting a police officer while causing a public disturbance.
At around 11:20 a.m. today, July 12, 2024, police were called to a mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South to assist Community Support Officers with an agitated and non-compliant man refusing to leave the property. Upon police arrival, the man, believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant, continued to act in an erratic and combative state; striking a Constable in the face as a struggle to gain control of him ensued. Additional officers responded to the scene and, using restraint tools, took the man into police custody and physically removed him from the property. During the incident, a second Constable and mall security guard were also injured.
As a result, the 35-year-old man was transported to SPS Detention where he was medically assessed by a paramedic. Assorted charges, including assaulting a police officer, are pending in relation.
