A Calgary male is facing numerous charges after evading police early Monday morning.
At approximately 2:10 a.m. on August 26, 2024 police observed a vehicle fail to obey a stop sign while turning onto 20th Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the driver fled at a high rate of speed travelling Westbound on 20th Street.
The vehicle continued driving Westbound on 20th Street before colliding with a chain link fence. At that time the driver exited and began to flee on foot. The Air Support Unit (ASU) was notified and located the suspect in a backyard in the 300 block of Vancouver Avenue South.
A K-9 track was conducted and led officers to the same location ASU identified; at this time, the suspect was located and arrested without incident. Upon further search of the vehicle, officers located cocaine, crack cocaine, and oxycodone.
As a result, a 17-year-old male is facing charges relating to evading police, dangerous driving, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and failure to comply with court ordered conditions.
