Police Presence - 36th Street West

Police have laid charges after multiple fires were reported Thursday morning.

Just after 10:00 a.m., October 24, 2024, police received a report of fence fire in the 100 block of 31st Street West. Police were responding to other fire related calls at the time. 

Upon police arrival a man was observed matching the description of the suspect a few blocks away from where another fire was actively burning. The man was placed under arrest at the scene without issue. 

This arson is believed to be related to four other fires that took place in the area. Police continue to investigate and further charges could be laid.

As a result, the 31-year-old man was charged with arson causing damage to property. The man also had a warrant for being unlawfully at large and was found to be breaching court-ordered conditions.

Due to a number of fires being reported, the Saskatoon Police Service currently has an increased police presence in the Mayfair neighbourhood. This includes the areas between 36th & 38th Street West between Avenue G and Avenue B North.

If possible avoid the area or follow police instruction. Please report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 or 306-975-8300.
