One man was arrested following assaults on a security guard and police officer yesterday.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on May 20, 2025, police were called to a mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South for a report of an assault. Further investigation determined that the mall’s security had detained a man for spitting in the face of one of their guards. The man was also believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant. As he was being transferred into the custody of the SPS, the man kicked a Constable in the stomach; the officer was not seriously injured.

As a result, the 53-year-old man was charged with assault and assaulting a police officer.
