Arrest - Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit Investigation - Saskatoon

The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has charged a Saskatoon man with child exploitation offences. In March of 2025, the Saskatchewan ICE Unit commenced an online investigation relating to child exploitation.

On May 27th, 2025, the Saskatchewan ICE Unit executed a Search Warrant at a home in Saskatoon. Electronic devices were examined and seized by investigators.

As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Steven Wesley Mernickle of Saskatoon was charged on May 27th, 2025 with the following:

  • Possession of Child Pornography (x2)
  • Making Available Child Pornography

Mernickle appeared in court on May 27th and has been released on numerous conditions. His next court appearance is set for June 12, 2025, at 2:00 pm in Saskatoon Provincial Court. (Court information number: 991304603)

The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the Saskatchewan RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.
