One man is facing numerous firearms offences following an incident, yesterday evening.
Shortly before 6:00 p.m., June 11, 2025, Patrol officers were dispatched to a weapons call at a home in the 400 block of Avenue R South. A man was reportedly seen pointing a gun at people from the residence. Upon arrival, Police attempted to evacuate the house but individuals inside refused to exit. With the threat of a firearm present, members of the Tactical Support Unit assisted in securing the area with the use of the Armoured Rescue Vehicle (ARV). At approximately 6:30 p.m., five individuals exited the residence and were taken into custody. One man reported to Police that he had just consumed fentanyl; he was transported to hospital by paramedics for assessment prior to being returned to SPS Detention. A sixth individual attempted to flee out of a rear window of the house but was quickly arrested. A shotgun was located and seized from the yard. Police also recovered a machete from inside the residence.
A 27-year-old man is charged with Handling a Firearm in a Careless Manner, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Fiream While Prohibited.
