Incident Involving Garbage Truck / Injured Person - 800 Block 20th Street West

One man was transported to hospital following an incident involving a garbage truck yesterday morning.

At around 10:00 a.m. on July 30, 2025, police were called to an alley behind the 800 block of 20th Street West that runs between Avenue I South and Avenue H South for a report of an injured person. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim suffering from what were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his legs; he was transported to hospital by paramedics for treatment of his injuries. Further investigation determined that a City of Saskatoon garbage truck had been conducting its routine pickup when the operator was notified by a bystander that he had just ran over the legs of a man laying in the alley. The operator stopped the truck and remained at the scene. Members of the Collision Analyst Unit were called to investigate and found that the driver was negotiating a left turn to proceed northbound in the alley when the incident occurred.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor of this incident and no charges have been laid. Members of the Collision Analyst Unit are continuing to investigate.
