Members of the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) are investigating following the death of a 35 year old male while in the SPS Detention Unit this morning. Within the criteria outlined in The Police Act, 1990, the Saskatoon Police Service notified SIRT of the incident. Following the notification, SIRT’s Civilian Executive Director accepted carriage of the investigation.
The 35 year old male began experiencing medical distress at approximately 9:30 a.m., November 11, 2025, after having been brought into custody in regard to reported assaults in the 300 block of Avenue Q South. That incident was reported to Police at approximately 8:50 a.m., November 11, 2025 and involved two female victims, ages five and 40. Members of the SPS Serious Assault Unit are conducting that investigation.
Further information will be released by SIRT in regard to the in-custody death.
