Bear Spray Incidents

Members of the Saskatoon Police Service responded to multiple incidents involving bear spray over the long weekend.

On April 2, 2026 at approximately 11:10 a.m., police were called to the 2500 block of 8th Street East for a report of a male who had been bear sprayed on a city bus.

Officers arrived on scene and learned there were no injuries as a result of this incident. Officers located the male victim shortly after; he did not wish to receive further medical care. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

On April 3, 2026 at approximately 12:50 a.m. police received a report of four males at a door step in the 3400 block of Fairlight Drive. Information indicated that the males followed the victims there and allegedly had bear spray.

Upon arrival, officers learned two male victims were walking home when four males approached them and one of the males pointed a can of bear spray. Other responding officers located two males matching suspect descriptions and upon a search of one of them, two cans of bear spray were located.

As a result of this incident, a 16-year-old male and 14-year-old male have been charged with assault with a weapon (x2). The 14-year-old has also been charged with possession of a weapon (x2) and concealing a weapon (x2).

At around 1:30 a.m. on April 3, 2026, officers were dispatched to a business in the 2200 block of 22nd Street West for a report of a weapons offence. Dispatch information indicated a female was allegedly assaulting people with a metal pole.

As police arrived on scene, officers observed a female open the front doors of the business and discharge bear spray inside. As police were arresting the female, another female exited the business carrying a metal pole. Both females were arrested without further incident.

It was learned the two females had been in an altercation prior to police arrival.

As a result, a 21-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a weapon and breaching court-imposed conditions. (Court Information Number: 991334861)

A 26-year-old woman has been charged with mischief over $5000, possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and breaching court-imposed conditions. (Court Information Number: 991334862)

Then, at approximately 1:55 p.m. on April 3, 2026, police were called to the 300 block of Confederation Drive for a report of someone spraying bear spray inside the mall.

Officers quickly arrived on scene and located a male victim suffering from the effects of bear spray. Through continued investigation, police learned the suspects allegedly attempted to rob the victim before spraying him with bear spray and fleeing the scene. Officers searched the surrounding area, but did not locate the suspects.

Police are continuing to investigate in relation to this incident.
