The Easter weekend proved a busy one for members of the SPS Canine Unit. They were involved in several arrests including the following;
On April 3, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m. SPS Patrol Officers initiated a traffic stop involving what was believed to be a stolen vehicle in the 3500 block of 33rd Street West. After being stopped and exiting the vehicle the male driver became combative and attempted to reenter his car. He was then apprehended by members of the SPS Canine Unit and brought into custody. He suffered a minor injury consistent with a dog bite.
A search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating methamphetamine.
The 34 year old male is charged with Obstruction of a Peace Officer and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The vehicle was not stolen as first thought.

On April 6, 2026 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Police received a report of a stolen SUV in the 300 block of Avenue U South. The driver located it a few minutes later a block away and officers arrived to find a suspect still in the vehicle. The male initially refused to exit the vehicle, failing to comply with Police orders. A canine team arrived on scene and took a position in front of the stolen vehicle, prompting the man to change his mind. He was brought into custody. Charges are pending.
Also on April 6th, 2026, at 10:10 p.m., Police responded to the 1000 block of Avenue K North in search of a 15 year old male who was wanted on outstanding warrants involving intimate partner violence. The male was reported to be hiding in the basement of the home. He reported to officers after being taken into custody that he gave himself up after hearing that a canine team was being called in.
The male is charged with Mischief, Assault (x2) and Uttering Threats (x2).
