A youth is facing charges after using a hatchet in a robbery on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., February 20, 2026, patrol officers responded to a mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South for a reported robbery-in-progress. Upon arrival, police learned an individual had brandished a hatchet and threatened staff while attempting to flee with unpaid merchandise.
A short time later, a person matching the suspect description was located walking in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue North, but when approached by police, fled on foot into a nearby building. They were arrested a short time later, following a brief physical altercation, and a hatchet was recovered.
The 16-year-old is charged with Robbery, Resist Arrest, and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. (Court Info # 991330784)
