Injured Person - Suspicious Death

The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section has laid homicide charges in regards to the death of a 25-year-old man in August.

A 20-year-old man is charged with First Degree Murder, Using a Firearm in Commission of Offence, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm and Discharging Firearm - Recklessness. He is expected to appear in Provincial Court tomorrow morning.

On August 18, 2019, Police responded to the 1800 block of 20th Street West for reports of an injured man. Upon arrival they located the victim, identified as 25-year-old Andrew Merasty, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section continues to investigate the city’s most recent homicide and is looking to speak to the occupants of a vehicle that was in the area on August 18, 2019. 

The occupant(s) are not involved in the homicide but given the time and place, may have witnessed some of the incident.

The vehicle is a late model red Mustang and was observed in the 200 block of Avenue S South shortly after 10:00 a.m. on August 18, 2019. 

If you were an occupant of this vehicle or know who the occupant(s) were, please contact the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crimes Section at 306-975-8241.

Investigators stress that the occupants of the vehicle are not involved in the homicide, but may have valuable information related to it.

Following the completion of an autopsy yesterday, Saskatoon Police are now investigating Sunday’s call of an injured person, as a homicide.

The 25-year-old man, whose identity is not being released at the request of family, was located in the 1800 block of 20th Street West on August 18, 2019. He was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Saskatoon Police and request to speak to a Major Crimes investigator, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Saskatoon’s 10th homicide of 2019.

The Saskatoon Police Major Crime Section is continuing to investigate after Police responded to a report of an injured person at approximately 10:00 a.m., August 18, 2019 in the 1800 block of 20th Street West. The victim was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police are investigating the incident as a suspicious death.

A 25-year-old man has been identified as the victim. Family of the victim have requested that his name not be released at this time.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Saskatoon police received a 911 call at 10:03 am this morning regarding a male found injured in the 1800 block of 20th Street West.  Police and Medavie services responded and attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful.  SPS Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Services were called out and are continuing with the investigation.

Police are asking anyone that may have information regarding this incident to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 and ask to speak to an investigator in Major Crimes or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
